On-Campus Housing

Who: Students living in dorms, residence halls, Greek homes or other university housing will not receive a questionnaire in the mail. Instead, the Census Bureau will work directly with campus administrators to distribute the forms to every student and arrange for their collection. This will take place some time between April 1 and May 15, 2010.

What is the Census? The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States, and is required by the Constitution to take place every 10 years.

What questions are on the Census questionnaire? The 2010 Census asks 10 simple questions like your name, gender, age, race, and whether you own or rent your home. It only takes about 10 minutes!

When and Where will the Census take place? Students living in campus housing will receive their Census some time between April 1 and May 15, 2010.

Why do we have a Census, and why should I care about it? The 2010 Census will help communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for things like:
  • Hospitals
  • Job training centers
  • Schools
  • Senior centers
  • Bridges, tunnels and other public works projects
  • Emergency services

So in order for you and your community to get funding, the government needs to know you’re here!
